Services

Longarm quilting can be all over edge to edge or custom quilting, both methods are stitched out using a computer guided stitch program called Pro-Stitcher.

EDGE TO EDGE

Edge-to-edge is a design that covers the whole quilt, there are many patterns to choose from.  Samples of some of the designs available are shown on the pattern page.

CUSTOM QUILTING

Custom Quilting is when areas are cut out (not quilted on), or when more than one pattern is used, for example, borders have a different pattern to the rest of the quilt.

The compass and boat are cut, the quilting goes around them (quilt top made by Norma Hasham).

ADDITIONAL SERVICES

As well as longarm quilting we offer a basting (tacking) service and a binding service.

Basting is where we machine-tack the 3 layers of your quilt ready for you to quilt yourself by machine or hand.

Binding either machine sew the binding onto the top of your quilt or machine the binding onto the top and hand sew on the back.  We typically use 2 ½” double-folded with mitred corners.  With this service, you give us your patchwork and we finish the quilt for you.

We sell extra wide backing fabric and wadding at a discount for longarm customers.

How to prepare your quilt for the longarm:

  • Square up the backing and top

  • Press the quilt top and remove any loose threads

  • Ensure all seams are secure, consider stay stitching 1/8” in from the edges

  • Wadding and backing fabric should be at least 8” wider and longer than the top

  • Do NOT pin or baste, keep all layers separate, they are attached to the machine individually

  • Label the top of your quilt and backing fabric

  • If your quilt has biased edges consider adding a border or stay stitch 1/8” in from the edges

  • If you have a dark-coloured quilt consider using black wadding

  • If you piece your backing fabric use a ½” seam and sew each seam twice

Two layers of wadding give a slightly puffy look to your finished quilt.

It is possible to use fleece as a backing for your quilt.
